Zion National Park
Zion National Park is located in Utah near the town of Springdale
in the Southwestern quadrant of the state. It contains 229 square miles
of diverse geological formations including mountains, canyons, buttes,
mesas, monoliths, rivers, slot canyons and natural arches. Located at
the junction of the Colorado Plateau, Great Basin and Mojave Desert, the
elevation ranges from 8,726 ft to 3,666 ft, leading to a diversity of
habitats and species including more than 1,000 species of plants, 67 species
of mammals, 29 species of reptiles, 7 species of amphibians, 9 species
of fish, and 207 species of birds.
The park was established on November 19, 1919. The stamp was issued on
September 18, 1934 as part of the 1934 National Park series of 10 stamps.
