Battle of Yorktown

This stamp issued on October 19, 1931 commemorates the 150th anniversary of one of the most important conflicts of the American Revolutionary War. The Continental Army under the command of General George Washington, French army soldiers led by the Comte de Rochambeau and a naval fleet under the leadership of the Comte de Grasse, defeated the British army commanded by Lord Cornwallis at Yorktown, Virginia. The surrender of Cornwallis and the British troops led to the withdrawal of all British forces from the American continent
