|  |  |  |  |  | Washington's Headquarters - Newburgh, NY On April 19, 1783, George Washington issued an order for the "cessation 
        of hostilities", which formally ended the fighting of the American 
        Revolutionary War. The official treaty was signed with the British in 
        Paris, France on September 3, 1783. The Hasbrouck House in Newburgh, New 
        York served as Washington's headquarters during the Revolutionary War 
        from April 1782 until August 1783. Because of its historical importance 
        it became the first publicly-owned historical site in the country and 
        was declared a national landmark in 1961. The stamp, featuring a rendering 
        of the Hasbrouck house, was issued on April 19, 1933 to commemorate the 
        150th anniversary of the proclamation. |  |
