Yosemite National Park
Yosemite National Park is located in the Sierra Nevada Mountain
Range about 200 miles east of San Francisco, California. It was the first
wilderness area declared a national park in 1890. The park is renowned
for its granite mountains, waterfalls and the Giant Sequoia trees. The
stamp depicts "El Capitan", one of the major attractions. Issued
on July 16, 1934, the stamp is part of a series on national parks approved
during the administration of Franklin D. Roosevelt. Over 3.7 million visitors
from around the world visit the 761,268 acre park each year.
