Boulder Dam

The stamp was issued on September 30, 1935, to coincide with the dedication ceremonies of Boulder Dam by Franklin D.Roosevelt. Construction started in 1928 during Herbert Hoover's administration. The dam was officially renamed Hoover Dam in 1947. It is located on the Arizona/Nevada border on the Colorado River near Boulder City, Nevada about 25 miles from Las Vegas. It is one of the highest concrete dams in the world at 726 ft and is a major tourist attraction with 1 million visitors per year.
