Everglades National Park

Everglades National Park is located on the southernmost tip of Florida. With an area of 1.5 million acres, it is the third largest U.S. national park and the only park that protects an entire ecosystem.The Park is the most significant breeding ground for tropical wading birds in North America and contains the largest mangrove ecosystem in the western hemisphere. It is home to 36 threatened or protected species including the Florida panther, the American crocodile, and the West Indian manatee. The Everglades supports 350 species of birds, 300 species of fresh and saltwater fish, 40 species of mammals, and 50 species of reptiles. The park was dedicated on December 6, 1947 and hosts about 950,000 visitors per year. The stamp was issued on December 5, 1947 to honor the dedication.
