American Bar Association
The stamp issued on August 24, 1953 commemorates the 75th anniversary
of the American Bar Association (A.B.A.)
which was founded on August 21, 1878. It is a voluntary association of
lawyers and law students with its main office in Chicago, Illinois. Among
its stated goals are to promote the highest quality legal education, competence,
ethical conduct and professionalism, to promote pro bono and public service
by the legal profession, to work for just laws, including human rights
and a fair legal process, and to assure meaningful access to justice for
all persons. Today the ABA has more than 400,000 members.
