Gardening and Horticulture

This 3 cent stamp honoring Gardening and Horticulture was issued on March 15, 1958 to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the birth of Liberty Hyde Bailey, a noted American horticulturist, botanist and cofounder of the American Society for Horticultural Science. He founded the College of Agriculture at Cornell University in 1888 and was a prolific writer of horticultural literature, writing some 65 books, edited more than a hundred books by other authors and published more than 1,300 articles and scientific papers. His most important legacy may have been his determination to introduce new technology and ideas to rural American farmers to improve their way of life.
