Verrazano-Narrows Bridge
This Verrazano-Narrows Bridge Issue stamp commemorates the opening
of the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge connecting the New York City boroughs
of Staten Island and Brooklyn. It is a double-decked suspension bridge.
The bridge is named for both the Florentine explorer Giovanni da Verrazzano
who became the first European to enter New York Harbor and the Hudson
River. The stamp features an image of the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge and
a map of the New York Bay.
